Application method: Small calcium carbide lumps (typically 15-50mm in size) are wrapped in paper and placed at the bottom of an airtight apace with the unripe fruit. The acetylene gas meet the fruits, accelerating the ripening process (usually within 48-72 hours).

Calcium carbide (CaC₂) is widely used for fruit ripening in some developing countries, mainly due to its low cost and easy availability. The specific countries and regions are as follows: in South Asia, some countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal, always use it to ripen the bananas and mangooes. And in Southeast Asia, Like Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, will be used for banana and pineapple in small scale farms.  And in Africa, some countries used for ripening mangoes, pineapples and bananas.
